The Difference
 is the Programs
Obstacles clutter the path to success for many girls and young women. Girls Incorporated of Albany provides programs for girls so they can chart their own courses for the future. Instead of competing with boys for teacher's attention, they thrive in a girl-focused environment. Rather than sitting on benches after school watching boys play sports, girls are engaged in fun, hands-on learning activities, taking field trips and exploring the world around them. By bringing the programs directly to the girls, Girls Incorporated can serve greater numbers at a lower cost.
Noted programs that are a regular part of Girls Incorporated of Albany include:

Operation SMART which builds girls' skills in science, math, and technology. Hands-on activities with trained program leaders give girls the opportunity to explore, ask questions, solve problems and collaborate in a girl-focused environment.

Friendly PEERsuasion is the substance abuse prevention program that specifically targets girls. It teaches teens to convince younger kids to avoid the hazards of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Role-play activities give girls practice in combating peer pressure to take drugs and uses positive peer pressure to avoid them.

Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy gives girls all the information, skills and confidence to avoid early pregnancy. Four age-appropriate components for girls ages 9 to 18 address parent/daughter communication, assertiveness, refusal skills, and planning for an exciting future.

Sporting Chance builds competitive spirit, team playing skills and interest in all sports, encouraging a lifetime commitment to sport and adventure. The most recent addition to the program series, Bridges, develops sports skills in girls ages 9 to 11 through fun-filled activities in softball, soccer, basketball and tennis.
