Editor’s note: In each issue we try to tell you who we are by highlighting one of our members. As you get to know some of our girls, we think you will come to understand our mission and why we work so hard to offer opportunities to our girls. These are the girls who will help shape the future of Dougherty County.

by Jo Jones
Julie Parrish's first trip out of Dougherty County was quite a memorable one. Not only was this her first trip out of the county, it was also her first time to spend the night away from home. She and 7 other girls were part of a Girls Inc. field trip to a White Water Park just outside of Atlanta. What a great summer adventure!
Julie has been coming to Girls inc. for two years and this is her second summer. The pretty pre-teen has brown eyes, a sprinkling of freckles across her nose and long brown hair.
Julie is a member of the Not-So-Teen group at Girls Inc. These eleven and twelve year olds are not yet teens but they certainly are not young girls anymore.
One of her favorite jobs at Girls Inc. is to be able to help look after the little girls. She knows how to do that. She lives with her grandmother but her brothers, sisters and cousins live next door. She is one of the older ones.
At Girls Inc. she is involved in Operation SMART, studying math and science. She is also one of the 'caller girls', older girls who bring the younger girls to the front door when their parents come for them.
Julie is also a budding artist. One of her paintings of a bird is posted at the Park Place Girls Inc. She likes to do banners and play kickball as well as baseball.
Some of her favorite videos are "Pocahontas", "Beauty and the Beast", "Jonah and the Whale", and "David and Goliath". She likes to read, too. "Cinderella is among her favorites. But best of all was spending the night out before leaving for the field trip to Atlanta. This was exciting for quiet Julie from Girls Inc.
